The Powerstroke High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP) has a history of leaking oil on the top of your 7.3 Liter Powerstroke?  It will look like a leak coming from the back main crank seal becouse the engine valley has a drain and the oil will weep out from the inspection plate between the engine and trnasmission.

Usually the O rings are the problem!

 I now have a 1994.5 - 1997 7.3L Ford Powerstroke Diesel Fuel Bowl Reseal O Ring Kit and a 1999-2003 7.3 FORD POWERSTROKE DIESEL FUEL BOWL RESEAL kits. Since you need to remove the fuel bowl to service the HPOP you might want to replace the seals in the fuel bowl as well.

The other guy says that brown is the only way to tell if the o ring is viton, so I guess you must trust him. On the other hand I sell Thousands of O rings a year and I know O rings! So don't believe everything you read on the INTERNET!
